Congratulations to the Varsity Baseball team for beating Winter Haven High School 9-6 for the District Championship Game. This marks the second time in two years that the Eagles have flew past Winter Haven HS with ease. Jared Bennett pitched very well leeping the Winter Haven hitters off balance. Big hits helped the Eagles with their victory. Trey Richardson hit a 3-run homerun in the first inning. Kyle Newton also hit a double with an RBI that scored Brandon Pratt. Hicks was 1-3 and so was Birdwell. Pratt hit a GRAND SLAM in the third inning, he was 2-4 on the night. The George Jenkins High School Eagles will host Daytona Seabreaze Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 7:00pm at GJHS. Come out and support the Eagles. (Editor: Brandon Pratt)Posted April 22, 2008
Congratulations to the Lady Eagles for winning their District Tournament! George Jenkins 2 vs. Auburndale 0. The runs were scored by Kayla Gabel and Ashley Alderman.
- Brittany Alderman pitched and struck out 10 batters and allowed just four hits. Way to go Brittany :)
- Brittanty also struck out 26 batters in 2 of the district games
- As of today the Lade Eagles hold an outstanding record of 21 wins and only 4 losses.
- The Lady Eagles (21-4) will play at home for the Regional Tournament playoffs against Hagerty High School- Oviedo (13-13) at 7:00 pm.Posted April 9, 2008
The following GJHS athletes were singled out as the Ledger's Tremendous Ten Preps on March 27th:Senior Maurice Coon Won (2) events at the West Polk County Track and Field Championship. Maurice won the shot put with a throw of 51 feet and 4 inches and a discus throw of 155-3. Whitney Abbott went 5 for 10 with (5) RBIs, (4) runs scored and walked (3) times. She has a team high batting average of .471 and is second with 13 RBIs. Carmine Naples went 5 for 9 to raise his batting average to a team leading .474. He is tied for second with 11 RBIs. Great job athletes!!!!

GOOD LUCK to our (2) GJHS wrestlers who will be competing at the State Tournament this week. Our state particpants are Tucker Chapman (26-9) at 145 pounds and Joe Hadley (28-6) at 214 pounds.
We are PROUD of our GJHS Boys Basketball team for making the district championship game. The Eagles were considered an underdog but played hard. Jenkins beat Lake Region and the No. 1 seed Lake Gibson to reach the title game. Although we lost to the Winter Haven Blue Devils (54-42) our Boys played strong. Our scoring leaders for the district game were Derrick Austin with 19 points and Deon Chatman with 13 points. Our scoring leader at the Lake Gibson game was D'Warren Williams at 25 points. Our scoring leaders in the Lake Region game were Jhanay Johnson with 14 points and Derrick Austin with 10 points. We are PROUD of our GJHS Boys Soccer team for all that they accomplished this year. The boys won districts but lost to Auburndale (1-0) in the Class 5A Region 2 semifinals.
