Congratulations to senior M.J. Audette for winning the Polk County Girls Golf Tournament.  M.J. was the only golfer to break par.  M.J. has signed a scholarship with Florida Southern College.  M.J. plans to major in sports management and would like to earn a graduate degree in golf management.  Her ultimate dream is to teach golf.   M.J. also won the Class 2A-District 7 championship.  In the FHSAA regionals she posted fourth with one stroke off a qualifying score for the state championship.  M.J., you make us PROUD!


Eagles Ball at Districts
Yesterday October 15th, the George Jenkins Eagles placed 2nd in the 2A District Tournament held at Bridgewater Golf Course. Bartow won by only 6 strokes but the Eagles still were able to qualify for the Regional Tournament which is held in Sebring next week. Case Guard was the low medalist of the tournament shooting a 76. The other Eagle team members were Dylan O'Neil who shot 80 and placed 6th in the tournament, Craig Rahman with an 81, Zach Sloman with a 92 and Austen Snodgrass with a 92. The low four scores were taken for a sum of 329 placing second and beating Lakeland High School by a big amount. This has not happened for the Eagles in a very long time. Coach Paul Weaver, stated that he was "Pleased with the results". He also stated that "It has been the most productive season in the last 10 years." If the Eagles place in the top 3 at Regionals next week, they will qualify for the State Tournament. Good Luck Eagles! --Zach Sloman, Senior Golf Editor--

Eagles Fly High at Counties

Yesterday on September,12,2007 at Bridgewater Golf course, the George Jenkins Eagles became County Champions. It is the first time since 1997 that the Eagles have won a Championship. In 1997 the Eagles won county and District Championships. Leading the Eagles to victory, tieing for the second lowest score in county was co-capitan Case Guard with a 73. Austen Snodgrass shot a 78, Dillion o' Neil shot a 79, and Zach Sloman shot an 80 for a total Score of 310. The competition was close but GJHS come out on top beating bartow by one stroke. Paul Weaver said, " I could not be happier with how the team played. This is a big milestone for the team, and a huge accomplishment for this school." Way to Go Eagles!!!

Next Eagles match will be at Bridgewater on September 13, 2007.
